foto03Two military personnel of CIOpPaz traveled to the capital of Sweden to take part in a course in the headquarters of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).

From April 5 to 9, 2010, Captain BRITO and Sergeant Major DO VALLE took part in a course named “Handling of deceased persons in armed conflicts and disasters”, at ECOGIA, ICRC Formation Center, in Sweden.

foto20The third day of CIMIC Symposium was marked by environmental flexibility and by plurality of discourses.

On April 8, 2010, in the auditorium of the Center for Personnel Studies (acronym in Portuguese: CEP), Argentinean Navy Commander ACOSTA, CIOpPAZ instructor, started the lectures of the third day of the 2010- 1 Symposium of Civil- Military Cooperation (CIMIC) in Peacekeeping Operations. He talked about the “Peculiarities of the civil-military cooperation in natural disasters”. After a short interval, Dr. RICARDO AFFONSO FERREIRA, President of NGO Brazilian Health Expeditions, mentioned the recovering work for the amputee in indigenous villages in the Amazon and in the contingency situation after the earthquake in Haiti.

foto04The versatile actions of different organs in the post-earthquake period in Haiti are the focus of debates on the second day of the CIMIC Symposium.

Around the INTEGRATION fulcrum, the second-day lectures of the Symposium of Civil-Military Cooperation in Peacekeeping Operations 2010- 1 (CIMIC), on April 7, 2010, in the auditorium of the Center for Personnel Studies, dealt with important themes related to the activities of the Doctors without Borders, of the International Committee of the Red Cross, of the Fire Department, of the Peacekeeping Engineering Company (BRAENGCOY) in Haiti. All of the lectures focused on the actions carried out during the critical period that followed the earthquake in Haiti, especially highlighting the lessons learned during that situation of crisis, in which integrating the multiple actors of humanitarian assistance is essential and indispensable.

On April 6, 2010, Mr Colonel PEDRO AURÉLIO DE PESSÔA, Commander of the Peacekeeping Operations Training Center (CI Op Paz), made the opening speech of the 2010-1 Civil-Military Cooperation in Peacekeeping Operations (CIMIC) Symposium in the auditorium of the Center for Personnel Studies. During his speech, the Commander of CI Op Paz invited Dr. MARCIA ABDALA to report the initiative of NGO Brazilian Health Expeditions in giving humanitarian support to the disabled in Haiti shortly after the earthquake that struck that country.

07Two days of intense activities on the CI Op Paz’s Civilian Training

On March 30 and 31, 2010, in the facilities of CI Op Paz, the Basic Course on Peacekeeping Operations Notions for Civilians started. There were thirty-one (31) students of IBMEC and of PUCRJ, in meaningful activities concerning themes related to the civilians’ participation in peacekeeping operations.
