On 20 February, Dr. Rebecca Bill Chávez, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense of Western Hemisphere, US Department of Defense, visited the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center [CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese]. Dr. Rebecca was welcomed by the Commander of CCOPAB, Colonel José Ricardo Vendramin Nunes.
On 17 February 14, CCOPAB started the second edition of the Course on Logistics and Reimbursement in PKOs. 40 military personnel from the Brazilian Armed Forces - Navy, Army and Air Force - started this course.
From 10 to 14 February 2014, the students of the Course for Subunit Commanders and Platoon Leaders [EPCOSUPEL, acronym in Portuguese] of the 20th Brazilian Contingent in Haiti [20 CONTBRAS, acronym in Portuguese] had lectures on PKOs focusing on United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti [MINUSTAH, acronym in French]. They also practiced First-Aid, had notions of IHL focusing on the UN, and trained shooting in the simulator room. In the field, they exercised the use of non-lethal weapons in the field as well as combat techniques in an urban environment in Gericinó Training Center [CIG, acronym in Portuguese] and in the Center for the Preparation of Rio de Janeiro State Police Enlisted [CFAP/PMERJ, acronyms in Portuguese].
On February 10, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) started the Course for Subunit and Platoon Commanders (EPCSUPEL, acronym in Portuguese) of the 20th Brazilian Contingent in Haiti (20o CONTBRAS, acronym in Portuguese) at Sergio Vieira de Mello Cultural Facility. This course aims at preparing officers already appointed for the specific functions of Subunit and Platoon Commanders and at enabling them to train their fractions as instructors.
On 27 January, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Center started the Course for Staff Officers and MilObs, counting on the presence of 10 Brazilian Army officers as students. This course marks the beginning of the instructional activities at CCOPAB in 2014.
On January 24, Colonel Luiz Fernando Estorilho Baganha handed over the command of the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Center to Colonel Jose Ricardo Vendramin Nunes. The ceremony was headed by Lieutenant General José Alberto da Costa Abreu, Commander of the 1st Army Division.
