CCOPAB carries out the UN Pre-deployment Advanced Field Exercise and certifies BRABAT 25

Jaboatão dos Guararapes (PE) - On 21 October, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB) carried out the Certification Ceremony of the Brazilian Battalion (BRABAT) that is going to compose the 25th Brazilian Contingent of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH, acronym in French). The ceremony was during the After Action Review (AAR) of the UN Pre-deployment Advanced Field Exercise (EAOP, acronym in Portuguese), aiming to hand in the Certification of Battalion’s Certificates in compliance with the norms established by the United Nations (UN).

Colonel Carlos Augusto Ramires Teixeira, CCOPAB Commander and Director of EAOP, started the AAR. Major General Francisco Humberto Montenegro Junior, Commander of the 10th Motorized Infantry Brigade and the Coordinator of the preparation of the 25th Contingent; Colonel Roberth Alexandre Eickhoff, BRABAT 25 Commander, and Lieutenant Colonel Urubatã Muterle Gama, Commander of the Army Training Assessment Center (CAAdEx, acronym in Portuguese) were present as well. Colonel Ricardo Pereira de Araújo Bezerra, former BRABAT 23 Commander, presented the observations made by the Observers, Controllers and Assessors (OCA) based on the most recent experiences collected during the mission of the 23rd Brazilian Contingent.

This EAOP edition was in the urban area of the city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes. It demanded a complex logistics of material and personnel to coordinate, evaluate and certify the activities carried out by BRABAT 25. The personnel of the three military forces, civilian volunteers, the crew of two aircrafts of the Army Aviation and local public security representatives worked for the exercise.

During the first week of the exercise, BRABAT, composed of personnel from the Brazilian Army, Brazilian Navy and an infantry platoon of the Brazilian Air Force, was employed in incidents which simulate situations the troops are likely to face in Haiti, emphasizing the evaluation of the platoons and squads. All the platoons received their certification from the hands of CCOPAB Commander, which certifies that they are apt to be deployed to MINUSTAH.

The second week of the exercise aims to evaluate the Staff of BRABAT in a Peacekeeping mission context. They must keep the execution of the incidents of the troops in the field and it requires a coordinate work which is similarly done in Haiti. This phase is carried out in a highly complex context, demanding a high level of knowledge of the Rules of Engagement and all the other knowledge related to peace missions.
