CCOPAB instructor opens the V International Congress of ABRATES
On Saturday, September 20, 2014, CPT ISRAEL, translator, interpreter and instructor to the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB), gave the opening lecture of the V International Congress of Translation and Interpretation of the Brazilian Association of Translators and Interpreters (ABRATES - acronym in Portuguese), at the Brazilian College of Surgeons , Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro. His lecture carried the title "The Brute also translate", and addressed the role of the military translators and interpreters in peace mission over the last 90 years. The climax of the lecture was when he detailed the hard work done by translators and interpreters in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) throughout the last decade. In the auditorium, there were 450 people, among translators, interpreters, book authors, university students and professors; CPT Christiane Lima and CPT Ana Cardoso were present, representing CCOPAB's Translators and Interpreters Division. According to translator Kelly Semolini, never had a lecturer been cheered for so long. Translator Heitor Corrêa emphasized that the lecturer deserved to receive a standing ovation. As to the experienced translator and glossary author, Danilo Nogueira, the lecture was historic and it will take a long time since someone does something more striking.
