Course for Journalists in Conflict Areas ends at CCOPAB

Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – The 2014 Course for Journalists in Conflict Areas ended in the afternoon of July 18, after five intense days of instructions during the day and at night.

During the course, the journalists had basic notions of mines and procedures in suspicious areas, defense against chemical, biological and nuclear agents, progression in risky areas, non-lethal weapons, first-aid, fire combat, among others.

According to journalist Ivani Shutz Martinelli, from RBS TV in Porto Alegre, the lessons learned will contribute a lot to her professional life as a journalist in the battlefront of an international conflict, or even in the coverage of protests or demonstrations.

She also added that the situations presented during practice were very real, demanding a lot from what was seen in the classroom, especially in relation to behavior, attitude and emotional balance that the journalist must adopt in a crisis situation.

The main objective of the course was to prepare the media professionals to carry out their functions in areas in which the UN is present, with emphasis on personal security procedures and relationship with military forces on the ground.
