Mine Action Course

The Mine Action Course aims at preparing military personnel to perform the functions of International Supervisors and Monitors in Humanitarian Demining missions under the aegis of international organizations.

The Course is developed in 2 phases and counts on the participation of military of the Brazilian Armed Forces, State Police Departments and foreign military personnel.

General objective of the course:

1st Phase:
• To present the history of humanitarian demining missions.
• To present the main International Treaties related to Humanitarian Demining.
• To start the study of IMAS (International Mine Action Standards).

2nd Phase:
To enhance the student´s professional capability in:
• Performing the role of International Monitor or Supervisor in humanitarian demining missions under the aegis of international organizations.
• Assisting the command or the upper echelon in decision-making process related to Humanitarian Mine Clearance.
• Technically support, as the case may be, the various organizations of the United Nations, the various organizations of the Organization of American States, the institutions of the host country's government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), which operate in the environment of Peacekeeping Missions and Humanitarian Demining.

Duration:
1st Phase (E-Learning, in charge of CCOPAB): 20 hours - 2 Weeks.
2nd Phase (on-site training, in charge of CCOPAB): 133 hours - 3 Weeks.
Total: 153 Hours - 5 weeks.

The classes are conducted in the Spanish language.

Estágio de Preparação de Civis para Atuação em Ambientes Instáveis (EPCAAI)

O Estágio de Preparação de Civis para Atuação em Ambientes Instáveis (EPCAAI) tem como objetivo a capacitação de civis que poderão atuar em ambientes de risco, proporcionando conhecimentos básicos de segurança e proteção, que poderão contribuir para a sua integridade física e mental nestes contextos.

Duração: O Estágio possui a duração total de uma semana, sendo realizado inteiramente na modalidade presencial nas instalações do CCOPAB e Organizações Militares que apoiam as atividades práticas do Estágio, sendo ministradas instruções relacionadas à comunicação e negociação, primeiros socorros, combate a incêndio, análise e mitigação de riscos, procedimentos em campos minados e áreas suspeitas, Defesa Química, Biológica, Radiológica e Nuclear (DQBRN), dentre outras.

Matrícula: O Estágio de Preparação de Civis para Atuação em Ambientes Instáveis possui como limite máximo de matrícula 40 (quarenta) alunos por edição, podendo ser matriculados civis brasileiros, servidores públicos federais, estaduais e municipais, integrantes de organizações não governamentais (ONG) e do meio acadêmico, bem como civis de nações amigas, com possibilidade de desdobramento em ambientes instáveis, particularmente em missões de paz sob a égide de organismos internacionais.

Seleção: O Estágio integra as atividades de Instrução Militar sob responsabilidade do Comando de Operações Terrestres (COTER), na modalidade de estágio setorial, funcionando sob a responsabilidade do CCOPAB, no qual assessora o COTER na seleção dos profissionais. O CCOPAB se reserva o direito de priorizar a seleção de profissionais cujo perfil se encaixe no público-alvo do estágio:

I. Servidores públicos federais, estaduais e municipais que trabalham trabalharão em ambientes instáveis (principalmente profissionais de Direito - juízes, promotores, agentes penitenciários, etc. e/ou profissionais que trabalhem com cooperação técnica prestada);

II. Organizações da sociedade civil que trabalham em ambientes instáveis (ONGs, pesquisa de campo, etc.); e

III. Parcerias institucionais.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

To foster the apprentices’ professional capability in:

a. covering reporting in zones of conflict, with special emphasis on the procedures of personal security and on the relationship with the military forces and other organizations acting in the terrain by enabling them to:

b. broadcast domestically and internationally the work done by the Brazilian Armed Forces in Peacekeeping Operations under the United Nations.

c. show the following affective attributes: prudence, self-confidence, coherence, cooperation, meticulousness and responsibility.

The course is aimed at the preparation of media professionals in their tasks in hostile environments.
