CCOPAB Commander visits the UN peace mission in Lebanon

Naqoura and Marjayoun (Lebanon) – From 12 to 16 December 2022, Colonel VAZ, Commander of the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB), and Colonel (Ret.) ROLANT, Head of the Peace Missions Section, of the International Affairs Office of the Army, visited the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), with the main purpose of following the work of the Brazilian Army soldiers up, as members of the Spanish Contingent in the Mission.

Initially, the delegation visited UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, where a briefing was delivered by two Brazilian Navy soldiers who work as staff officers in the mission. Colonel AFONSO, the Brazilian Defense Attaché in Lebanon, who provided invaluable support throughout the visit, was also present.

Afterwards, the delegation moved to Marjayoun, where UNIFIL Sector East Command is located. The Spanish contingent of the Mission is deployed there, including seven Brazilian Army military soldiers, working as staff officers in several cells of the sector. Visitors had the opportunity to tour positions occupied by troops of the Spanish contingent along the Blue Line. Monitoring the armistice line between Lebanon and Israel, after the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory, is one of UNIFIL tasks.

During the visit to Sector East, the Commander of CCOPAB and the Chief of the Peace Missions Section participated in a meeting with the Commander of the Sector, Major General (Spanish Army) MARÍN, who highlighted the high performance of the Brazilian Army soldiers in their respective functions. It should be noted that CCOPAB has been leading the training of Brazilian military personnel participating in UNIFIL since 2011.
