CCOPAB participates in the 5th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Network of Research on Peace Operations (REBRAPAZ)
Rio de Janeiro - On last November 9 and 10, instructors of the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center - Sergio Vieira de Mello Center -, a Brazilian Army Teaching Establishment, subordinate to the Department of Military Technical Education, participated in the 5th Annual Meeting and in the 4th Research Seminar of the Brazilian Network of Research on Peace Operations (REBRAPAZ, acronym in Portuguese).
This year, the theme of the Meeting was: "Uncertain multilateralism, adaptation and renewal: what is the role of UN Peace Operations in a changing world?".
The discussions, all held in the English language, were divided into three panels:
- Uncertain multilateralism, adaptation and renewal: Brazil and UN Peace Operations in a changing world;
- Civil-military integration and the greater effectiveness of peace operations; and
- Protection of Civilians and the normative and doctrinal framework of the United Nations.
The second panel, when the Commander and the Chief of the Doctrine Division of CCOPAB contributed in the discussions, aimed at presenting the main challenges and opportunities regarding civil-military interactions in UN peace operations in order to achieve sustainable effectiveness, considering the current complexities faced by the United Nations and international actors in societies affected by armed conflicts.
Still regarding the second panel, Professor Dr. Ricardo Oliveira dos Santos, from the Catholic University of Rio (PUC-Rio, acronym in Portuguese) - Assistant Undergraduate Coordinator of the Institute of International Relations and Teaching Coordinator of REBRAPAZ was the organizer of the panel.
Sergio Vieira de Mello Center has been a full member of REBRAPAZ since 2016. Since then, the research network is under the general coordination of Dr. Eduarda Hamann, who has dedicated over 20 years of her life in research and teaching on peace operations.
