CCOPAB and the Brazilian Network of Research on Peace Operations participate in coordination meeting for VIKING 2022
Rio de Janeiro - From November 8 to 10, 2021, instructors from the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center - Sergio Vieira de Mello Center, a Brazilian Army Teaching Establishment, subordinate to the Department of Military Technical Education, and the General Coordinator and members of the Brazilian Network of Research on Peace Operations (REBRAPAZ, acronym in Portuguese) participated in a coordination meeting related to the initial plans for Operation VIKING 2022. The activity was conducted and coordinated by the Land Operations Command (COTER, acronym in Portuguese).
Being co-chaired by the Swedish Armed Forces and the Folke Bernadotte Academy, VIKING Exercise is a training platform designed to prepare military, police, and civilians for the purpose of preparing them for a crisis situation. The exercise is multi-dimensional, multi-functional, and multinational, employing modern operational concepts.
Additionally, VIKING is characterized as a Command Post (Joint and Combined) simulation exercise, supported by information technology (IT) and based on a broad spectrum approach, focusing on cooperation among relevant actors in Peace Operations under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, and is currently considered the largest exercise of its kind in the world.
In an unprecedented way, the last edition of Exercise VIKING also took place in Brazil, from April 16 to 26, 2018, when the Brazilian Army participated in the exercise through the deployment of a remote site that operated simultaneously with the host country (Sweden) and four other European countries (Finland, Ireland, Serbia and Bulgaria). At that time, COTER was responsible for conducting the exercise at the headquarters of the Planalto Military Command and the Army Headquarters.
