CCOPAB assists in the preparation of jungle war instructors to be deployed to Congo

Rio de Janeiro, RJ - From May 20 to 24, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center, Sergio Vieira de Mello Center, carried out the Military Experts on Mission Course (IPMP-2019/2, acronym in Portuguese). This activity aimed to prepare the selected military personnel according to the training standards established for the UN blue helmets. For this, the pre-deployment material was approached and a practical exercise was performed after the completion of the theoretical instructions. At the end of the instructions, there was a sharing of experiences with military personnel who recently returned from the mission.

The Jungle Warfare Training Team (JWTT) is a mobile training team of jungle combat instructors. They will be employed by the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) to train the troops of the Force Intervention Brigade, composed of battalions from South Africa, Malawi and Tanzania. It is important to note that this is the first time that this type of training will be conducted in the mission area, which has attracted the interest of the entire UN Department of Peace Operations. The team is composed of 14 soldiers: 1 (one) from the Navy, 12 (twelve) from the Army and 1 (one) from the Air Force. In Congo, they will be headed by LT COL (Army) Adelmo de Sousa Carvalho Filho.

The closing ceremony was carried out by COL Marco Antônio Estevão Machado, CCOPAB'S commander, accompanied by COL Fábio Negrão de Souza, head of the Peace Missions Division from COTER, as well as national and foreign instructors who joined the training. In this opportunity, the delivery of the Certificates of Conclusion was carried out, which assures the JWTT members the conditions required for their deployment in MONUSCO.
