CCOPAB takes part in the Protection of Civilians Course

Montevidéu (URU) – From 5 to 19 May, Captain LUCAS BASTOS DE SOUZA, from the Brazilian Peace Operation Joint Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) - Sergio Vieira de Mello Center - took part in the Training of Trainers Course on Comprehensive Protection of Civilians (TOT on CPOC), carried out by Integrated Training Service from the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations. It took place in the National School of Peacekeeping Operations from Uruguay.

The following military personnel from friendly nations took part in this course: 1 from Bangladesh, 1 from Bolivia, 1 from Brazil, 2 from Croatia, 1 from Egypt, 1 from El Salvador, 2 from Ecuador, 1 from Mexico, 1 from Pakistan, 1 from Peru, 1 from Nepal, 1 from Rwanda, 1 from Tanzania and 8 from Uruguay.

The aim of the course was to teach some techniques to deal with cooperation and planning of actions with focus on protection of vulnerable civilians. Besides civilians, it aims at protecting UN members and avoiding armed conflicts where there is a Peacekeeping Battalion in action.
