CCOPAB certifies the last Brazilian contingent in MINUSTAH

The Advanced Pre-deployment Field Exercise, which was held by the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) from April 17 to 28 in Caçapava-São Paulo, evaluated the operational efficiency of the 26th Brazilian Battalion. The Exercise simulated situations that routinely occur in Haiti and it approached the rules of engagement, protection of civilians, zero tolerance to sexual exploitation and abuse, gender equality, civil-military coordination, situational awareness and gradual use of force, besides other procedures, which are seen as transversal in the doctrine of the employment of troops in UN missions.

The Advanced Exercise had the support of the military personnel of the 12th Airmobile Light Infantry Brigade, graduate students from Vale do Paraíba University (UNIVAP) and members of the public security sector of Caçapava. The Brazilian Army Aviation and the Army Training Assessment Center (CAAdEx, acronym in Portuguese) also supported the Exercise, which counted on the participation of over a thousand people.

The 26th Brazilian Battalion will be the last contingent to be deployed in MINUSTAH. According to Resolution 2350 issued by the UN Security Council, the mission will be gradually withdrawn until its complete demobilization on October 15th of 2017. From that moment on, a new entity will replace MINUSTAH: MINUJUSTH (United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti). Police components from different nationalities will be part of MINUJUSTH, and they will work on the training of the Haitian National Police.
