The third day of the UN Pre-deployment Advanced Field Exercise sets the gradual use of force for the 26th Brazilian Battalion and the suppport from the Army Aviation

The third day of activities of the UN Pre-deployment Advanced Field Exercise (EAOP, acronym in Portuguese) demanded that BRABAT show many needed skills for the deployment in United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

Among them all, one can highlight the gradual use of force, consisting of adequate actions from the troops, in order to respond to any adversity. This skill was assessed by means of a simulated confrontation between rival gangs. The simulation demanded that brazilian troops intervene to provide a solution.

Another point to be highlighted during the exercise was the use of the Écureuil (Squirrel) and Caracal (Super Cougar) aircrafts, from the 1st Army Aviation Battalion. BRABAT 26 could then be evaluated how to make use of air support in situations demanding quick responses.

CCOPAB carries out evaluation as per international standards

The objective of CCOPAB, during EAOP, is to certify the preparation of BRABAT 26 as per the UN Standards. Such norms guide the certification of all troops to be deployed in peace missions.

The systematics of evaluation consists of verifying the fractions of BRABAT during the event, observing how the troops behave and evaluate the procedures followed, in order to pinpoint possibilites of improvement. Military personnel from all over Brazil, who had already been deployed to Haiti, assist CCOPAB with the evaluation of BRABAT 26. The goal is that, at the the end of the exercise, BRABAT 26, from the experienced Commander to the youngest private, be successful for the certification.
