Civil-Military Coordination is part of training at CCOPAB

Aiming to approach relevant topics regarding the integration between civilians and the military in UN peace missions, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) carried out the UN Civil-Military Coordination Course – CIMIC. This course was held from 20 to 24 of March. Members of the Brazilian Armed Forces, Auxiliary Forces, friendly nations (USA and Spain) and civilians from the International Relations area participated in the course.

CCOPAB counted on the support of Indian Army Lieutenant Colonel Anand Bajpai, British Army Major Martin Ogilyie, representatives of the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, United Nations Information Center (Rio de Janeiro), Red Cross International Committee, Igarapé Institute, the United Nations and military personnel that took part in previous contingents in Haiti.
Entirely held in English, CIMIC capacitated the members of the Civilian Affairs System, particularly those who will soon be deployed in the 26th Brazilian Contingent in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

Complying with the Civil-Military related content found in the UN Training Materials (UN-CIMIC STM), the instructions aimed at developing the apprentices’ capabilities in analyzing and summarizing; the exchange and independence of opinion; oral and written expressions; the ability to face alternatives as well as the acceptance of different points of view in the decision making process.
