On September 16, 2011, the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (acronym in Portuguese: CCOPAB) held at its Honor Room/Salão Nobre, the closing ceremony for the last version of the Preparatory Course for Unit Commanders and Combined Staff Officers/EPCOEM 2011-2.
The Course EPCOEM 2011-2 started on September 12 and lasted one week, during which the officers involved were offered intense activities and could interact with other military personnel who had just arrived from the peacekeeping mission in Haiti and reported them their experience there. The concluding participants of the course were 12 officers from the Brazilian Navy, 31 officers from the Brazilian Army and 01 officer from the Brazilian Air Force.
A detachment of the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB), consisting of twenty three military personnel, including the Deputy Commander and the most junior soldier, took part in the 24th Edition of the Marines Corps Race, which took place at Aterro do Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro.
In the morning of August 31,the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) had another day of intense activities. Thirty soldiers, who enlisted this year, took the enlistment oath in front of the Brazilian Flag under the emotional presence of their relatives. On this occasion, six military personnel, including CCOPAB commander, were awarded with the following medals:
In the morning of August 30, the US Consul General in Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Dennis Walter Hearn, was received at the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) by its commander, Colonel Pedro Aurélio de Pessôa.
This visit enabled the Consul to not only get to know the activities carried out at CCOPAB but also pass on his own experiences on the participation of American troops in CIMIC activities in Afghanistan to officers and sergeants of the Center.
From the 16 to 19 of August, 2011, the 3rd Assembly of the Latin American Association of Peacekeeping Operations Training Centers (ALCOPAZ) took place in the Chilean Joint Peacekeeping Operations Center, in the city of Santiago. The main theme of this Assembly was “ALCOPAZ, the present and the future: the view of its members to strengthen the capacities and trainings and improve the management of Peacekeeping Operations, including the Joint ones”.
Sound of Peace Band from the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (acronym in Portuguese: CCOPAB) had full agenda in the Advanced Drill for PKO in Caçapava – SP held from 05 to 12 of August, 2011. The band members participated in the events organized by SESC and SESI of the state of São Paulo, the latter of which counting with the special participation of one of the most important conductors and piano players in Brazil: Mr. João Carlos Martins. In that occasion, Colonel Pedro Aurélio Pessôa, the Commander of CCCOPAB, could present the conductor the projects which have music and sports as tools of social inclusion in environments of Multidimensional Peacekeeping Operations.
