Students from the Military Institute of Engineering (IME) visits CCOPAB

DSC04202_660x495Fifty-three students of the sophomore year from the IME Graduate Course, accompanied by Capt Monteiro and 1st LT Melquíades, visited the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center on March 20, 2012. They were received by Lieutenant Commander Odimar Gomes Leite, Deputy Commander of the Center. At this opportunity, 1st LT Maurício Dias Lopes Valdetaro, instructor of the Individual Missions Subsection, gave a lecture in the auditorium of the Cultural Facility Sergio Vieira de Mello. The lecture was on: Peace Operations/ CCOPAB and the performance of the Military Engineer in Peace Operations.

BRABAT2/16 – 2012 undergoes the Advanced Pre-Deployment Drill

DSC_1388_660x438The Advanced Pre-Deployment Drill (acronym in Portuguese: EAOP) for the 16th Peacekeeping Contingent (BRABAT 2) started on March 11 in the city of Palhoça and ended on March 16. With the presence of the Drill Director, Major General BRASIL (Commander of 14th Motorized Infantry Brigade), EAOP enabled the integration of military, civilian and police personnel and successfully ended the preparation of BRABAT 2 contingent before going to Haiti in the first semester of this year. The Drill was coordinated by the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center.

 

CCOPAB Officers take a course on UN Humanitarian Civil Military Coordination

DSC03931_660x495_660x495Captain Herbert, from the Contingent Section, and Captain Shoji, from the Civil Affairs Section, both instructors at the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center, took a course on UN Civil Military Coordination from March 04 to 09, 2012 in Miami – FL. The course was conducted by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs with support of the US SOUTHCOM.

 

CCOPAB is visited by a representative from the UK Ministry of Defense

DSC04191_660x495On March 15, 2012, the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) was visited by Mr. Andrew Falconer, representative of the UK Ministry of Defense for issues related to South America and the Caribbean.

Accompanied by Col Marian Evans, the UK Defense Attachée, Mr. Falconer was received by the Center’s Deputy Commander.

Soldiers join the Army at a ceremony held in CCOPAB

DSC02343_660x495On March 2, 2012, CCOPAB held the joining ceremony of the 2012 Variable Contingent. The Center hosted 31 new soldiers from Rio and the surrounding cities to do military service, which is mandatory in Brazil. The Commander of the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center spoke to the new soldiers and their families and enhanced the importance of their joining the Brazilian Army and the noble mission they will render the country from that day on.

Ceremony to celebrate the 7th anniversary of CCOPAB

DSC02196_660x495 On March 1st, 2005, Directive no. 090 was issued on February 23 of the same year by the Commander of the Brazilian Army in order to create the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Training Center (acronym in Portuguese: CIOpPaz). 

With the growing participation of Brazil in this kind of operation, the Brazilian Ministry of Defense decided to unite efforts of the three Armed Forces and the Brazilian Auxiliary Forces and use the facilities of CIOpPaz as the base to create a Joint Center which would meet the needs of any civilian or military person assigned to represent Brazil in a peacekeeping or humanitarian demining operation.
