Commander of the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) and delegation visits CCOPAB
Rio de Janeiro (RJ) - On September 23rd, 2021, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center, Sergio Vieira de Mello Center, a Brazilian Army training center, welcomed Admiral CRAIG S. FALLER, Commander of the U.S. Southern Command/USSOUTHCOM and delegation.
The USSOUTHCOM delegation was welcomed by Division General Maurílio Miranda Netto RIBEIRO, Deputy Chief of the Army Department of Education and Culture; by Colonel Márcio Carneiro BARBOSA, CCOPAB’s Commander; by Dr. Eduarda HAMANN, General Coordinator of the Brazilian Research Network on Peace Operations (REBRAPAZ) and members of this training center.
After the military honors, the event included an institutional lecture by the Commander of CCOPAB, on Brazil's participation in peacekeeping operations and humanitarian demining; and teaching activities carried out by Sergio Vieira de Mello Center. Following, there was a presentation by Dr. Eduarda HAMANN regarding the missions and attributions of REBRAPAZ.
Afterwards, the delegation of the Commander of USSOUTHCOM participated in a military ceremony, honoring the Brazilian fallen in peace missions under the scope of International Organizations (UN and OAS), especially those who lost their lives during the earthquake in Haiti on January 12th, 2010. At the end of the visit, Admiral FALLER signed the Honor Roll of CCOPAB, and the final farewells.
SOUTHCOM is a U.S. Joint Command composed of military and civilian personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and various U.S. Federal Agencies.
