CCOPAB Mobile Training Team delivers the UN Engagement Platoon Training Course I, in the context of UNPCRS (Inf Bn - PKF)

Cascavel (PR) – The Mobile Training Team (MTT) of the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center – Sergio Vieira de Mello Center – an educational organization under the supervision of the Department of Military Technical Education - has been delivering, for the first time ever, the UN Engagement Platoon Training Course, contributing towards the training of soldiers from the Mechanized Infantry Battalion (Mech Inf Bn-PKF), of the 15 Mechanized Infantry Brigade, which is available to the United Nations Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System (UNPCRS).

The training course was jointly conceived and planned by CCOPAB and the Peace Mission Department, of the Land Operations Command (COTER, acronym in Portuguese). It is divided into two phases: The first phase, from 28 June to 02 July, covered Core Pre-Deployment Training Material and Specialized Training Materials lessons. The second phase, from 05 to 09 July, is fully practical and carried out inside the UN Pre-Deployment Basic Field Exercise (EBOP, acronym in Portuguese) of the Mech Inf Bn/PKF, giving participants the opportunity to practice functions related to the engagement platoon, when on the ground.

The general conception of the course strictly followed the doctrine of the UN DPO; thus, providing an effective participation of female soldiers in peace operations, as per the WPS Agenda, from the UN Secretariat.

Apart from Sergio Vieira de Mello Center instructors, we can highlight the participation of LTG Ricardo Augusto Ferreira COSTA NEVES, 2IC of the Land Operations Command and a former MONUSCO Force Commander. MONUSCO is a reference UN peace mission when it comes to the deployment of engagement platoons.

The Brazilian Research Network on Peace Operations (REBRAPAZ) was represented, during the training, by Mrs. Bárbara Thomas Metzner, from Santa Catarina Federal University (UFSC). Eighteen soldiers, integrating the Mixed Engagement Platoon (MET), attended the training course. By means of group debates and practical exercises, they have been consolidating competences and skills to be part of this fraction in UN peace operations.
