Brazilian Army sends the first woman to work in the Staff of a peace mission

Rio de Janeiro (RJ) - The Brazilian Army will send Major Regina Lúcia Moura Schendel, who is a military doctor, to operate under the aegis of the UN in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).

She will be the first female military person to be a Gender and Children Protection Officer, for a year, representing the United Nations as a Staff Officer in the Headquarters of that mission. She will coordinate, plan and develop programs and courses related to gender issues. Presently taking the Staff Officers Course (EPMP, acronym in Portuguese) at CCOPAB, she demonstrated her emotions: "It is a great pleasure to have received this opportunity to be the first one in this function. Being the first woman from the Army to carry out this specific activity, I wish I can successfully accomplish it and represent our country and the Brazilian Army with pride".
