CCOPAB carries out Seminar on Protection of Civilians

In the morning of June 10, continuing the celebrations related to its 4th Anniversary of Creation, the Brazilian Peace Operation Joint Training Center (CCOPAB) carried out a seminar on: "Protection of Civilians in UN Peacekeeping Operations". Different representatives of the society, besides CCOPAB and other units' military personnel, were present at the event.
During the first lecture, Colonel José Ricardo Vendramin Nunes, CCOPAB Commander, talked about the historical context, how the valorization process of the theme by the United Nations (UN) happened and how the legal conditions were created, which include the provision of resources to execute Peace Missions that prevent or minimize losses or aggressions to civilians. Major (Air Force) Marcio Simião de Souza focused on child protection and the importance to break the vicious circle of violence provoked by adults who were assaulted during their childhood.
Finally, Commander (Navy) Sérvio Corrêa da Rocha Junior, last lecturer, talked about the Rules of Engagement, in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), that guarantee the protection of civilians in that country.
