On August 19, Espaço Tom Jobim, in Jardim Botânico, Rio de Janeiro held the Seminar "10 Years Without Sergio Vieira de Mello". The Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) was represented in the event with the presences of officers from the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force, besides the military personnel who are members of Sound of Peace Band (which is also composed of musicians from the other two military forces and military firefighters and policemen of the State of Rio de Janeiro). In the occasion, Sound of Peace Band presented some pieces of music. The event was closed by the solo presentation of the famous singer Gilberto Gil.
August 19 is the date chosen to celebrate the World's Humanitarian Day in reference to the terrorist attack against the Office of the United Nations in Bagdad, the capital city of Iraq, in 2003 which resulted in the deaths of 22 UN officials – among whom was the UN's Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, the Brazilian Sergio Vieira de Mello.
In order to pay a tribute to Sergio Vieira de Mello and to debate the Brazilian legacy to the UN, the event counted on the participation of the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, the UN's Under-Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs Ms. Valerie Amos, the UN's Special Representative in Guinea-Bissau, José Ramos-Horta, among other Brazilian and UN authorities.
