Opening Ceremony of the Course for Subunit and Platoon Commanders (EPCSUPEL) 2013/02

The Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) opened the doors of Sergio Vieira de Mello Cultural Facilities on August 12 in order to start the Course for Subunit and Platoon Commanders (EPCSUPEL) for the 19th Brazilian Contingent in Haiti (19º CONTBRAS). This course aims at preparing officers appointed for the specific functions of Subunit and Platoon Commanders and at enabling them to train their fractions as instructors. Military personnel from the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force assigned as members of BRABAT, BRAENGCOY and Marines COY in the United Nations Mission for the Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH, acronym in French), as well as military personnel from the Paraguayan Peacekeeping Operations Joint Training Center (CECOPAZ), are the apprentices of the course.
During the opening ceremony of the course, CCOPAB's Commander Colonel Baganha presented a lecture concerning the organization, the mission and the work developed in the Center. After that, 1st LT Eschiletti, one of the instructors of the Center, talked about the "History of the mission and aspects related to Haiti".
In the afternoon of day 1, Colonel Baganha, Captain Sousa Pontes and 1st LT Godoi presented instructions based on the UN's Core Pre-deployment Training Material (CPTM), respectively: the "Strategic View of UN Peacekeeping Missions", the "Establishment and Functioning of UN Peacekeeping Missions" and "Relevant Law Aspects for Peacekeeping Missions: Humanitarian International Law, Human Rights, and Protection to Women and Children".
