CCOPAB takes part in VIKING 22 workshop
Enköping (Sweden). From 13 to 20 November 2021, Major Rodrigo Berbert Eiras, an instructor from the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center - Sergio Vieira de Mello Center, a Brazilian Army Educational Organization, along with members from the Peace Mission Division of the Land Operations Command (COTER, acronym in Portuguese), took part in the VIKING 22 planning meeting.
The activity brought together members of the Direction of the Exercise (DIREX) from Brazil, the United States, Finland, Norway, Ukraine, as well as from UN, with the objective of defining the "timeline" and incidents of VIKING 22 - simulated problems that will compose the dynamics of the exercise and will reflect real situations that occurred in the context of UN peacekeeping operations and NATO missions (Main Event List/Main Incident List).
Co-chaired by the Swedish Armed Forces and the Folke Bernadotte Academy, the VIKING exercise is, by definition, a training platform designed to prepare military, police and civilian personnel to act during a crisis situation. It is multidimensional, multifunctional and multinational exercise, employing modern operational concepts, and is currently considered the largest exercise of its kind in the world.
In an unprecedented way, the last edition of the VIKING exercise took place in Brazil, from April 16 to 26, 2018, when the Brazilian Army participated in the exercise, from a remote site, which operated simultaneously with the host country (Sweden) and with four other European countries (Finland, Ireland, Serbia and Bulgaria). In 2022, Brazil will also host the next edition of the VIKING Exercise (remote site).
