CCOPAB participates in the SSAFE Training
Rio de Janeiro (RJ) - On 28 November, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) – Sergio Vieira de Mello Center –, took part in the SSAFE Training, which was carried out by the United Nations Department of Safety and Security.
The first two days of the training were held at the Itamaraty Palace. They consisted of theoretical instructions addressing issues of risk analysis, incident management, personal security, conduct in kidnappings, talking strategies, negotiation in hostile environments and the functioning of UN security policies.
To practice the instructions given, a field exercise was set up by CCOPAB on the last day of the training. Students then had the opportunity to practice progression in risk areas, first aid and hostage management in a kidnapping scenario.
The objective of the training is to ensure the safety of UN system staff and to enable them to cope with risky situations in their activities.
The SSAFE Training was completed by United Nations employees in Brazil, NGOs partners and other state institutions, such as the Brazilian Red Cross; the APELL process; the Rio de Janeiro State Military Police and the School of Civil Defense.
