CCOPAB ends one more edition of the Military Experts on Mission Course

On November 23, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) ended the second semester’s edition of the Military Experts on Mission Course. The closing ceremony was headed by Major General Kleber Nunes de Vasconcellos, Chief of the Aviation and General Inspector of the Military Police/Land Operations Command. The students were awarded certificates of completion and a badge for having attended a course at CCOPAB.

The Military Experts on Mission Course is divided into three phases. The first one is on an e-learning basis. The aim is to provide students with the content found in the Core Pre-deployment Training Materials, which consist of the basic knowledge regarding peacekeeping operations and of which blue helmets must be aware.

The second phase lasts four weeks and students are to make use of the English Language, by learning general vocabulary as well as that concerning peace operations activities, which UN Military Observers and Staff Officers will have to deal with in the future.

The last and third phase of the course was held from October 29 to November 23. In this moment, students learn the content found in the Specialized Training Material that will teach them the specific job they will carry out when deployed. The last held activity was the Green Week, which is an exercise that simulates different scenarios in which students face situations similar to the ones they may find in their missions.

CCOPAB has been making an effort to follow the UN guidelines concerning the increase of female participation in Peace Operations, and that started with Major Regina Lúcia Moura Schendel, back in 2016. This last edition of the Military Experts on Mission Course counted on the attendance of seven women, being four from the Brazilian Army and three from the State Police. Thirty-eight military personnel finished the course. Twenty-nine belonging to the Brazilian Army, four from the Brazilian Air Force and five State Police members coming from the following Brazilian States: Acre, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro.
