Between 20 and 31 of March, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) carried the Course on Logistics and Reimbursement in UN PKOs. The aim of the two week long course, comprising practical and theoretical instructions, was to prepare military personnel from the Brazilian Armed Forces to occupy positions related to management and logistics in UN Peace Operations.

In the first week, the course addressed topics concerning the logistics applied in the Ministry of Defense and that in the Armed Forces while deployed in UN Peace Missions. During that time, the apprentices had contact with members from the Ministry of Foreign Relations, Ministry of Defense, Brazilian Army Logistics Command as well as with former members of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). Also during this opening week, the apprentices had the chance to visit the facilities of the following military units: Brazilian Army 1st Supply Warehouse; Brazilian Air Force Logistic Transportation Center and Naval Base of Rio de Janeiro, from where they could observe “Bahia”, the Multipurpose Dock Vessel, which belongs to the Brazilian Navy.

In the following week, the course focused on the logistics structure and the UN reimbuserment system. The apprentices were given the chance to take part in theoretical instructions, work groups and case studies. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), an agreement between Brazil and UN, and the Contingent Owned Equipment Manual were an important part of the instructions.
