CCOPAB instructors participate in seminar in Bolivia

From 5 to 7 of October, 2011, two CCOPAB instructors (Military Police of the State of São Paulo Cpt Hélio Tenorio dos Santos, and Military Firefighter of the State of Rio de Janeiro Cpt Marco Antonio Basques Sobrinho) participated in the International Seminar called “Military and Police Cooperation in Peacekeeping Operations” organized by Pearson´s Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) in Canada, and Bolivian Army´s Direction of Peacekeeping. The seminar took place at the Bolivian Army´s General Staff College in the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia, and gathered police and military representatives from 10 countries with delegations from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

The seminar´s scope was the Program of Peacekeeping Cooperation with Latin American countries by Pearson´s Peacekeeping Centre. Its aim was to reinforce the acknowledgement of responsibilities shared or not by military and police personnel in peacekeeping operations. During the seminar, it was possible to identify concrete suggestions of training in order to facilitate the cooperation of military and police forces in peacekeeping operations.

The discussions were centered in four theme modules: Integrated Nature of Peacekeeping Operations; Roles and Responsibilities of Police Forces in Peacekeeping Operations; Roles and Responsibilities of Military Forces in Peacekeeping Operations; Roles and Responsibilities of Military and Police Forces in Peacekeeping Operations; Training Requirements for Military-Police Cooperation and Coordination.

The conclusions at the end of the seminar highlighted the recommendation that the peacekeeping centers from the participant countries must offer a joint preparation for military and police forces because of the multidimensional nature of modern peacekeeping operations.
