CCOPAB welcomes General André Luis NOVAES Miranda - Chief of the Army Department of Education and Culture
Rio de Janeiro (RJ). On 29 July, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB), an educational military unit under the guidance of the Department of Military Technical Education, welcomed General André Luis NOVAES Miranda - Chief of the Army Department of Education and Culture (DECEX), a Brazilian Army Sector Management Board. The objective of the activity is the first official visit of the Chief of DECEX to Sergio Vieira de Mello Center.
After military honors, there was a military formation. Then, CCOPAB officers officially saluted GEN NOVAES; next, CCOPAB commander delivered a lecture on the mission, history, features and capabilities of the peace mission and humanitarian demining Training Center.
Still, GEN NOVAES visited the facilities of the Joint Center such as the language laboratory, auditoriums, classrooms and the like. He then delivered a presentation to CCOPAB members. Finally, officers from Sergio Vieira de Mello Center had again saluted him before he left the military unit.
The current Chief of DECEX was the first commander of the Center, whose name at that time was Brazilian Army Peacekeeping Training Center (CIOPPAZ, acronym in Portuguese). GEN NOVAES is also a former peacekeeper who was then deployed to the following UN missions:
- United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) in the former Yugoslavia - as a UNMO/Team Leader deployed to Croatia and Bosnia); and
- United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) - as a G3 (Ops Officer) in the third BRABAT contingent.
