End of Military Experts on Mission Course

On May 4, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) finished one more edition of the Military Experts on Mission Course (EPMP, acronym in Portuguese). The closing ceremony of the Course was held at the Honor Hall and chaired by Colonel Machado, CCOPAB’s Commander. Colonel Martorelli, from the General Inspectorate of the Military Police, and Colonel Menezes Melo, from the Land Operations Command, attended the event as well. The attendees were given certificates of conclusion and badges for concluding the four week long Course.

The aim of the Course, which was entirely held in English, was to prepare military and Police personnel to be deployed as Staff Officers, Military Observers and United Nations Police. Theoretical and Practical classes composed the activities.

A Field Exercise, which had a week duration, was the ultimate activity of the Course and it was carried out in Gericinó Instruction Field. The attendees had the chance to practice what they had learned in situations similar to the ones they will face in United Nations peace missions. The Exercise counted on the support of students from the Brazilian Institute of Medicine and Rehabilitation that served as role players and who spoke different languages, which allowed the military attendees to practice their language skills.

The United Kingdom military attaché, Captain (Navy) Kevin Fleming watched one of the activities in the Field Exercise. Moreover, CCOPAB also counted on the support of English Captain James Arrowsmith as well as on the experience of Argentinian Lieutenant Colonel Feijóo and Chilean Major Weber, as instructors of the Course.

Twenty-five Brazilian military personnel attended the four week Course, being 19 from the Army, four from the Air Force and two police officers. It is worth to point out the participation of female personnel as attendees as well, such as: Major Renata de Castro Monteiro Netto and Major Luciana de Paiva, both from the Brazilian Army; Captain Jeane de Aquino A. dos Santos and Captain Carla Dolores Barreto Gama da Silva, from the Brazilian Air Force.
