Visit of the UN Secretary General Mr Ban Ki-moon to Brazil

When the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Mr. Ban Ki-moon, visited Brazil, he participated in a ceremony held in honor of the Brazilian citizens who had given their uttermost sacrifice in the earthquake that took place on January 12, 2010 while serving in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

The ceremony was coordinated by CCOPAB when the Center was still called the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Training Center (CIOpPaz) and held on May 27, 2010 at the Brazilian Center for Personnel Studies/Duque de Caxias Fortress (CEP/FDC). During the ceremony, the Secretary General had a reserved meeting with the family members of the deceased and laid a bunch of flowers next to the plate that honors those Brazilian heroes. After the ceremony, the plate was brought to CCOPAB and put together with the other plates that name the Brazilian citizens, either in the military or civilians, who had died in peacekeeping missions in which Brazil had taken part.

Mr. Ban Ki-moon was welcomed by an Honor Guard constituted by 62 military from the active service and Army veterans who had participated in peacekeeping missions. The ceremony also counted on the illustrious presences of Admiral Julio Soares de Moura Neto, who was the Brazilian Navy Commander and acting Minister of Defense at that time, the Eastern Military Commander General Adriano Pereira Júnior, as well as other civilian and military authorities.
