Preparatory Meeting for the 2nd General Assembly of the Latin American Association of Peacekeeping Operations Training Centers (ALCOPAZ)
On May 20, 21 and 22, 2010, the Executive Board of the Latin American Association of Peacekeeping Operations Training Centers (ALCOPAZ, acronym in Portuguese) met in the neighborhood of Leme, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, for the event called Preparatory Meeting, which aimed at planning the 2nd General Assembly to be held in Brazil from 9 to 13 of August, 2010. The meeting was opened by the President of ALCOPAZ, LTG Williams José Soares. Other authorities´ participation must also be highlighted: COL Pedro Aurélio de Pessôa – “pro tempore” Secretary of ALCOPAZ; COL Fernando César Hernandes; Lt. Col. Eduardo Acosta as the representative of the Republic of Argentina; Lt. Col. Claudio Zanetti as the representative of the Republic of Chile and COL Carlos José do Canto Barros from CCOPAB.
“Pro tempore” Secretary of ALCOPAZ, COL Pedro Aurélio de Pessôa, presided the meeting on the following day. Besides the authorities present the previous day, the debate counted on the presence of the General Sub-inspector of the Military Polices COL Ricardo Célio Chagas Bezerra, and the Adjunct of the General Board of Inspectors of the Military Polices Major Mário Augusto Mota Coimbra.
On the last day the participants from Argentina and Chile visited the facilities of CCOPAB in Vila Militar - Deodoro.
The Preparatory Meeting resulted in the definition of “Integrated Training to Face Natural Disasters” as the main topic of the 2nd General Assembly of ALCOPAZ. Besides, two minutes were made available for the State Members. Those minutes ruled the work to be developed by the Latin American Association of Peacekeeping Operations Training Centers.
