Basic Course on Peacekeeping Operations Notions for Civilians

Two days of intense activities on the CI Op Paz’s Civilian Training

On March 30 and 31, 2010, in the facilities of CI Op Paz, the Basic Course on Peacekeeping Operations Notions for Civilians started. There were thirty-one (31) students of IBMEC and of PUCRJ, in meaningful activities concerning themes related to the civilians’ participation in peacekeeping operations.

On the first day, Colonel PEDRO AURÉLIO DE PESSÔA, CI Op Paz Commander, welcomed the participants. Captain RODRIGUES, Chief of the Doctrine Division, lectured on the  “UN System and the Capstone Doctrine”. After that, Captain BORDEAUX, from EsAO, presented the lecture on “Military observer/Staff Officer”, and it was followed by the lecture of Professor JANA TABAK, concerning “The work done by the NGOs in the UN Peacekeeping Operations”.  In the afternoon, the following lectures dealt with “UNHCR”, given by ALIK BARBOSA, a student of International Relations; and with “PIO (Public Information Officer)”, given by the International Relations under-graduated STYVEN MOLENDA. On this day, the works ended with a lecture on “Humanitarian Assistance/CIMIC” given by Captain JÚLIO CEZAR and also with a lecture on “Brazilian Contingent (Haiti)” given by Captain NERY.

On the last day, the activities were also intense. In the morning period, there were instructions about “UNPOL”, “United Nations Logistics”, “UNMITUD”, “DDR”, given by Major SILVA (PMERJ), Captain BRITO, Captain RAFAEL, Commander ACOSTA (CAECOPAZ), respectively. In the afternoon, the last lecture brought up the theme “Civil Affairs”, and was carried out by Professor LEONARDO PAZ who also coordinated the conclusion of the training with a Case Study.
