CI Op Paz Military Officer in the Sweden International Training Center

Brazilian instructor attends Peacekeeping Operations Course with other military personnel from 10 different countries in the Kingdom of Sweden.

Changing the 40o degrees Celsius for minus 10o degrees Celsius, 1st Lieutenant JOÃO MAURÍCIO DIAS LOPES VALDETARO, instructor of the Contingent Subsection, reported himself on March 15, in SWEDINT (Sweden International Training Center), in Kungsängen city, Kingdom of Sweden, to attend the United Nations Junior Officer Course – UNJOC.

From the Scandinavian lands, in February, CIOpPaz had already had the honor of receiving the visit of the Norway Deputy Minister of Defense, Mr. Espen Barth Eide. Among the Scandinavian countries, there is a great level of cooperation and integration in terms of preparation for the peacekeeping operations. Such environment makes the collaboration among friendly nations easier. Another affinity point is the fact that the noble queen of Sweden, Sílvia Renate Sommerlath, lived in Brazil from the age of four to the age of fourteen, when her German father and her Brazilian mother moved to São Paulo after the Second World War. On the other hand, we have the presence of our “soccer queen”, Marta, venerated throughout Scandinavia, since she has the power to do magic with the ball.

It will be two intense weeks in which, more than aiming at the main objective which is to enable officers to perform functions as a Platoon Leader and Company commander in peacekeeping operations, the activity will allow an important cultural exchange.

This year, the UNJOC gathered officers, students and instructors from ten countries with military representatives from Mongolia, Togo, Nigeria, Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Finland and Brazil. Besides the already scheduled theoretical instructions in the facilities of SWEDINT, the course will culminate with the accomplishment of a two-day exercise in the field (snow!).
