CCOPAB carries out Mine Action Seminar I
Rio de Janeiro, RJ. On 19 October, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center - Sergio Vieira de Mello Center - organized, for the first time ever, Mine Action Seminar I, in order to present and debate on the main activities, either completed or ongoing, of UN Agencies and Programs as well as of other international organizations, when it comes to Mine Action and Victim Assistance (VA); also to share the Brazilian experience in training and deploying military personnel in humanitarian demining activities in South America since the 90s.
The activity, also carried out via VTC, was a live broadcast event which had the following lecturers:
LTG CÉSAR Alves Rocha, former Chief of the Assistance Mission for Mine Clearance in Central America (MARMINCA, OAS, Nicaragua), and current Deputy-Chief of the Cnst and Eng Department; COL JOÃO LUIZ Lopes Teixeira, former Chief of the Mission of Instructors and Advisors on Humanitarian Demining (MIADH, Colombia); CDR (Navy) Wagner Ferreira OMARI, former member of the Assistance Mission for Mine Clearance in South America (MARMINAS); Mr. GABRIEL VALLADARES, representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); and Ms. LINA MARÍA CASTILLO MÉNDEZ, representative of UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS).
The following attendees were at the event: MG Rodrigo Pereira VERGARA, Director of Military Technical Education, representatives from the MoD, Land Ops Command, Eng Group/5, 1 Airborne Eng Coy, Engineering Training Center, among others.
