CCOPAB carries out the Civil-Military Coordination Course 2020/2

Rio de Janeiro (RJ) - From 07 to 18 September, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center - Sergio Vieira de Mello Center - carried out the Civil-Military Coordination Course (CIMIC), aiming at preparing military, police and civilian personnel to hold positions related to the UN System of Civil Affairs, mainly to Civil-Military Coordination.

The course, entirely offered in English, was divided into two phases: the first, on e-learning basis, lasting for one week, in which students familiarized themselves with CPTM. The second, on site at the facilities of CCOPAB, lasting for one week, in which students received STM lessons.

Thirty students attended this CIMIC edition: 15 cadets from Agulhas Negras Military Academy, 5 cadets from Rio de Janeiro State Police Academy and 10 undergraduates from PUC-Rio, UFBA, UFF, UFRRJ, UNESP and USP.

Apart from CCOPAB members, we can highlight the participation of the following guest instructors: MAJ (SP State Police) FERNANDA Santos, CPT (Corps of Engineers) Carlos BITTENCOURT (7th Combat Eng Bn), Mr. RAFAEL Levy, UNHCR Liaison Officer, 1LT (AL State Police) Rodolfo ESPERIDIÃO and WO R. FRANCO, from the Land Ops Command.

By having group debates and pratical exercises, the students could benefit from the chance of interacting in a multidimensional environment, as we find in peace operations.

Furthermore, the CIMIC/2020.2 relied on the significant support from the following military organizations of the military compound in Vila Militar:
- Airborne Infantry Brigade HQ; 1st Airborne Armoured Squadron; and the 57th Mtz Infantry Bn.
