CCOPAB takes part in the UN National Investigator Officer Course

Montevideo (URU) – From November 04 to 15, MAJ Rodrigo Fontes de Araújo, from the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese), – Sergio Vieira de Mello Center – took part in the UN National Investigator Officer Course. The activity was carried out at the Uruguayan National School of Peace Operations, in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The course, which was carried out by UN and the Uruguayan National School of Peace Operations, aimed at training the National Investigation Officer to perform the following functions:

- To join a investigation team and coordinate the activities of investigation;

- To plan, organize, conduct and manage investigations regarding allegations of United Nations Regulations and Rules, relevant administrative emissions or cases involving serious violations of international humanitarian law;

- To carry out interviews and obtain statements;

- To look for, collect, record and preserve all potential or relevant evidence, including in electronic form, ensuring that all necessary chains of evidence is established and maintained;

- To determine whether matters involve potential fraud, corruption or other illegal conduct that justifies referral to national authorities;

- To take part in briefings and planning with the investigation team;

- To conduct or supervise pre-response preparation, receipt and recording of incident information, informing the appropriate persons/offices during and after the response, planning the response and deploying and controlling the incident scene;

- To preserve evidence and report the scene to authorities;

- To implement and maintain established procedures to ensure professional competence and integrity throughout the investigation process

- To work and contribute to the development of processes to meet research needs; prepare complete and concise research reports and carry out post-research tasks.

Twenty-nine students from the following countries took the Course: Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Guatemala, Colombia, Honduras and El Salvador.
