CCOPAB receives a visit from the UK Ministry of Defence delegation
Rio de Janeiro, RJ – On 24 October, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese), Sergio Vieira de Mello Center, received a visit from the UK Ministry of Defence delegation, which was composed of LT COL Liz Hutchison (Royal Air Force); LT COL Rachel Grimes (British Army) and CPT Aleesha Mitchell (British Royal Navy). Kevin Fleming, UK Defense Attaché in Brazil, and Cecilia Bijos, Attaché's assistant, were also present. The purpose of the visit was to exchange experiences on the participation of women in peace operations under the aegis of the United Nations.
During the visit, the team had the opportunity to share with the students, who are taking UN Military Observer/UN Staff Officer Courses, the UK experience with the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security, as well as some details on the International Conference on Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict, which will be held in London. It should be noted that this issue is imposed by the UN in the pre-deployment courses.
