CCOPAB participes in International Workshop on Integrated Protection of Civilians

Between December 17 and 21, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese), represented by Captain Camila Paiva, participated in the International Workshop on Integrated Protection of Civilians in UN Peacekeeping Operations, in New Delhi, India.

There were thirty-six participants attending the event, being eleven from India and twenty-five representatives from different countries, such as: Brazil, Argentina, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Japan, Kenya, Morocco, Myanmar, Niger, Nigeria, Togo, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Chad, South Africa, United Kingdom, Austria, Mongolia, Egypt and Nepal. Among the attendees, there was the participation of eight female officers.

Throughout the week, topics regarding Protection of Civilians, such as Conflict Related Sexual Violence and Child Protection, were covered and discussed by former members of United Nations Peace Missions, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (Protection of Civilians experts) and by the students.

On December 19, there was a cultural trip to Agra, where the Workshop attendees could visit Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

The International Workshop, which was held at Manekshaw Centre, was a joint effort between the Center for UN Peacekeeping (CUNPK) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
