CCOPAB participates in the 24th IAPTC

Auckland (Nova Zelândia) - From 01 to 04 October, Colonel Machado - CCOPAB Commander represented the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center in the 24th Annual Conference of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC), in Auckland, New Zealand.

2018 IAPTC Conference - “Innovative Capacity Building For Effective Peace Operations” - was organized by New Zealand Defense Force. The main objectives were the diffusion of UN training standards and those of other relevant organizations; the promotion of experience sharing among peacekeeping training centers, regarding training methodologies; the discussion on peace operation policies; the creation of a cooperative working environment; and the promotion of gender mainstreaming in PKOs.

Besides that, the Conference was an opportunity to promote several institutional perspectives and organizational cultures for military, police and civilian components. Over 50 countries and nearly 200 people took part in the event.
The Brazilian delegation was headed by General Vasconcellos from the Land Operations Command (COTER, acronym in Portuguese). He is the Chief of Peace Missions and Aviation and Inspector-General of State Police (IGPM, acronym in Portuguese). The following authorities were also present: Admiral Chagas, CIASC commander; COL (Brazilian Air Force) Moura from the Ministry of Defense; COL Charles Roberto from COTER; COL (Ret.) Rolland from the Army Staff Cabinet; and MAJ (Brazilian Air Force) Kluppel from the Air Force Staff Cabinet.

Lieutenant General Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz, former Public Security National Secretary and former Force Commander both in Haiti and in the Democratic Republic of Congo, also took part in the event. On the occasion, he presented the results of Cruz Report, elaborated under his coordination, aiming at lowering the number of blue helmet casualties in peace missions.

Colonel Machado represented the Latin American Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (ALCOPAZ, acronym in Portuguese) and presented the lessons learned from the Viking Exercise 2018. That refers to a simulated exercise of a Multidimensional PKO carried out last April, in Brasília-DF. Foreign officers from 19 countries, most of them as ALCOPAZ members, were present at the event.
