CCOPAB celebrates International Day of UN Peacekeepers

On May 29, International Day of UN Peacekeepers, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB, acronym in Portuguese) celebrated and paid tribute to military, police and civilian personnel that accomplished the noble task of keeping the peace throughout the world.

The acitivities at CCOPAB started by honoring all of those peacekeepers who fell while serving the United Nations in these 70 years of peace operations. Major General Sinott, Commander of the 1st Army Division, Mr Wanderley Braga, President of the Suez Battalion Members Association and Colonel Ramires, CCOPAB’s Commander, laid flowers on the memorial that recalls the fallen ones. The memorial is placed right in front of CCOPAB’s facilities.

Shortly after, there was an assembly, which counted on the participation of former members of Suez Battalion and of the Brazilian Dettachment of the Interamerican Armed Force (FAIBRAS, acronym in Portuguese), besides the presence of former members of peace missions of which Brazil took part. The ceremony was presided by the Commander of the 1st Army Division and was followed by a parade that was under the command of General Marçal, the most senior peacekeeper in the event.

A motivational lecture delivered by boater and former Olympic athlete Lars Grael, at the auditorium of Armor Advanced Course (EsAO, acronym in Portuguese), closed the tributes for the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
