Jaboatão dos Guararapes (PE) - On 11 October, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB) started the UN Pre-deployment Advanced Field Exercise (EAOP, acronym in Portuguese). It aims to evaluate and certify the troop of the Brazilian Battalion (BRABAT) which will take part in the 25th Brazilian Contingent to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

The opening of EAOP had the presence of Major General Francisco Humberto Montenegro Junior, Commander of the 10th Motorized Infantry Brigade and Coordinator of the preparation of the 25th Brazilian Battalion (BRABAT 25); Colonel Roberth Alexandre Eickhoff, BRABAT 25 Commander, and Colonel Carlos Augusto Ramires Teixeira, CCOPAB Commander and EAOP Director.

This is the final phase of BRABAT’s preparation, in which many situations the troops may face in Haiti will be simulated on the streets. The military strength of BRABAT 25 is composed of about 700 men from the Brazilian Army, the Brazilian Navy and the Brazilian Air Force. 278 military personnel work in the coordination, as role players and in the security of the exercise.

EAOP will finish on 21 October. The deployment for the six-month mission in Haiti will start on 17 November.
