CCOPAB takes part in the High-Level Independent Panel on UN Peace Operations

On 31 October 2014, the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, established a High-Level Independent Panel on UN Peace Operations, which will make a comprehensive assessment of the state of UN peace operations today, and the emerging needs of the future.

From 29 to 31 March 2015, the High-Level Independent Panel on UN Peace Operations was held in Salvador-BA. Col Vendramin, commander of the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB), was the representative of that military unit delivering a lecture on the preparation and training for Peacekeeping Operations.

The opening session was chaired by the former President of East Timor (2007-2012), José Manuel Ramos-Horta, who won the Peace Nobel Prize in 1996 due to his efforts to end the oppression in his country.

Representatives from twenty countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as Gen Menandro - Chief of Strategical Issues of the Ministry of Defense Armed Forces Joint Staff, Gen Santos Cruz - MONUSCO Force Commander, Gen Paul Cruz - Director of UN DPKO Peacekeeping Strategic Partnership, Gen Floriano Peixoto - the only Brazilian member of the Independent Panel and Gen Álvaro - Underchief of Peace Operations of the Ministry of Defense Armed Forces Joint Staff took part in the Panel. Furthermore, authorities from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Ambassador Paulo Tarrisse, important people from the academia and the civil society were also present at thge event.
