Ministry of Defense carries out Workshop on Protection of Civilians with the 6th India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Joint Working Group

Itaipava (RJ) – The 6th India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Joint Working Group, international event coordinated by the Ministry of Defense, took place from July 22 to 26. On July 22, the opening was carried out by the Under Chief of Operational Logistics of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General ÁLVARO GONÇALVES WANDERLEY. Two officers from India, eight from South Africa and eleven from Brazil were present at the workshop.

During the week, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB) conducted the works of the UN Training Workshop on Protection of Civilians. At this opportunity, the participants leveled their concepts on protection of civilians from the humanitarian and military perspectives and they also had lectures on protection of children and civilians training and pre-deployment of troops.

According to Colonel THABO PETRUS MOTAUNG, of the South African Defense Force, the event was a huge success and benefitted all the participants: "Everything was carried out in a very professional manner. I take back home the key concepts on protection of civilians, especially in relation to women and children. We are looking forward to receiving this event in our country." - highlighted the South African officer. On the last day of the workshop, the participants visited Rio de Janeiro when they had the opportunity to get to know CCOPAB's facilities and the main tourist attractions.
