Peacekeepers are honored by CCOPAB

The ceremony honoured the International Day of Peacekeepers
VILA MILITAR, RJ - On May 29, the Brazilian Peace Operations Joint Training Center (CCOPAB) carried out a ceremony to mark the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
Colonel José Ricardo Vendramin Nunes, CCOPAB commander, accompanied by the President of the Association of the Members of the Suez Battalion (AIBS), Mr. Wanderley Braga, placed flowers in the Peace Memorial, monument that honours the Brazilian military and civilian personnel who lost their lives in UN missions - amongst whom, Sergio Vieira de Mello, CCOPAB's patron. Afterwards, CCOPAB commander and deputy commander, LTC (Air Force) Fábio Augusto Grineberg Domingues, were granted the Peace Mission Medal, offered by AIBS to the ones who have given relevant services for the world peace cause. AIBS is an entity who congregates peace mission Brazilian veterans.
The International Day of UN Peacekeepers was established by the United Nations as a way to honour annually all women and men who serve and continue serving in Peacekeeping Operations and to honour those who lost their lives in the name of peace. This date was chosen because, on May 29 of 1948, through Resolution nr 50/1948, the Security Council authorized the set up of the first UN Peacekeeping Operation and also because, in 2003, the 55th UN Anniversary was celebrated.
