CCOPAB carries out the 2013-2 Course for Unit Commanders and Staff

From July 31 to August 2, the Brazilian Ministry of Defense (Brasília-DF) started off the First Phase of the Course for Unit Commanders and Staff (EPCOEM) that will compose the 19th Brazilian Contingent (19 CONTBRAS) of the United Nations Mission for the Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH, acronym in French). The 19th Brazilian Contingent is made up by the Brazilian Battalion, the Brazilian Engineering Company and the Marines Company (BRABAT/BRAENGCOY/Marines COY 19), and the course aims at presenting instructions collected from the UN's Core Pre-deployment Training Material (CPTM).
The Second Phase of the course is covered from August 5 to 9 at the facilities of the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) in Rio de Janeiro-RJ, and trains the staff by means of oral instructions and videoconferences by officers who are posted in real action or have just returned from the mission, and by personnel from units that support, know or interact with the mission or with the area in which it takes place.
As opening activities of the course, Military Prosecutor and Master in Humanitarian International Law Ms. Najla Nassif Palma made a lecture on the following topics: "International Laws Applicable to UN's Peacekeeping Operations" and "Protection of Human Rights in UN's Peacekeeping Operations". After that, Medical 1st Lieutenant Marcela Meira talked about "HIV/AIDS in Peacekeeping Operations".
In the afternoon, Commander (Marines) Costa Reis and Lieutenant Colonel Negreiros presented a lecture on "Gender – Protection of Women and Children"; Captain Sousa Pontes talked about "Data Collection in Peacekeeping Operations" and Captain Rafael Farias talked about "Logistics in the United Nations".
