Course for Journalists in Conflict Areas 2013 – 3rd day

During the third day (July 10) of the course, the journalists had their first practical activities, with instructions at the Brazilian Army's Specialized School concerning "Land Mines and Procedures for Potentially Risky Areas" presented by Major Alexsandro and "Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense" presented by Captain Anderson Wallace. After the theoretical part, the apprentices entered a tear gas chamber, and considered it a thrilling and important experience due to the effects caused in them and the proportion imagined in a possible chemical war.

In the afternoon, the apprentices attended instructions at the Firefighting Specialized Instruction Center of the Military Firefighting Corps of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The topics presented were: "Previously Collapsed Structures", "Fire Fighting" and "First Aid", by Lieutenant (Fire Fighter) Fábio Contreras.

At the end of the instructions, the apprentices gained more knowledge on how to identify and deal with adverse situations, as well as awareness to details and procedures in general, such as the places where they may stay, actions they may take and planning for critical moments, taking into account they must prioritize their own lives.
