First Day of the Course for Journalists in Conflict Areas - 2013
July 8 was the opening day of 2013's Course for Journalists in Conflict Areas, held at the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB). The course counts on the participation of journalists and professionals who work in several areas of communication and military personnel from social communication, and aims at the preparation of the apprentices with practical and theoretical classes through five days.
In the morning of the first day, the apprentices were hosted by the Commander of CCOPAB Colonel Luiz Fernando Estorilho Baganha, who officially opened the course and made a presentation concerning the activities developed at the Center. After that, Lieutenant Colonel Negreiros made a presentation on "Brazil in Peacekeeping Operations". Then the Chief of the Brazilian Army Center of Social Communication (CComSEx) Lieutenant General Carlos Alberto Neiva Barcellos presented the work done at his unit as well as the means of communication of the Brazilian Army.
In the afternoon of that day, Brazilian journalist Alexandre Garcia spoke about his professional experience in armed conflicts and reported what he went through in those situations. After that, Lieutenant Commander (Marines) Werner made a presentation on "Rules of Engagement" and Lieutenant Colonel Moleta on "Communication and Negotiation."
Closing the activities of the opening day of the course, the apprentices could enjoy the first presentation of the exhibition "Peacekeeping Missions", which depicts the activities developed by CCOPAB through photo panels; after that, they had a guided tour through the exhibition "Rondon, the Marshal of Peace". Lastly, they enjoyed the presentation of Sound of Peace Band, which is composed by military musicians of the Brazilian Navy, Brazilian Army, Brazilian Air Force, and military firefighters and policemen of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
