Members from CCOPAB participate in the II Meeting of Partners for Peace

On June 26, the Command of Ground Operations (COTER) hosted a Meeting of Partners for Peace at the auditorium of the Brazilian Army Police Battalion in Brasília. The Commander of the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) Colonel Baganha and members of the Center participated in the Meeting.

The event was coordinated by the Peacekeeping Division of the 3rd Subdivision from COTER and aimed at identifying the best practices and opportunities that may be defined, after analysis, as “lessons learned” for the improvement of its missions. This is done by keeping information updated and by broadening knowledge concerning the work developed by the Brazilian Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Brazilian Army in peacekeeping missions.

The official opening ceremony of the Meeting was done by the Commander of Ground Operations GEN João Carlos VILELA Morgero, who highlighted the importance of strengthening boundaries among COTER and its partners, and the importance of Brazilian participations in peacekeeping missions. He also reported his personal experience as the Commander of Haiti Brigade.

The cycle of speeches was started by Prosecutor of the Military Justice of Rio de Janeiro Najla Nassif Palma, who dealt with Aspects of International Law of Armed Conflicts in Peacekeeping Operations. After her speech, it was the turn of the presentation by LTG CARVALHO, Underchief of Operational Logistics of the Brazilian Ministry of Defense, dealt with the importance of coordinating and making suggestions of logistical directives. After that, MG GOULART, 4th Underchief of COTER explained the present roles and future perspectives of MINUSTAH. VADM ZAMITHN made his speech concerning UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) and after that, Minister Norberto Moretti shared information pertaining to the work done by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Peacekeeping Operations.
