CCOPAB starts off the Course on Negotiation in PKO
On June 24, the Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) started off the Course on Negotiation in Peacekeeping Operations. The course lasts one week and its objective is to enable the military personnel to carry out negotiation at tactical and operational levels, advise the Command or the higher echelon on decision-making situations and know and support, if necessary, the different organizations of the United Nations, of the host country, of non-governmental organizations (NGO), which act in Peacekeeping Operations environment.
In its first edition, the course is composed of military personnel of the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force who have already been assigned, or are in the selection process, to peacekeeping missions under the auspices of international organizations, such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of the American States (OAS). Other military personnel taking the course are from military schools or colleges, such as the Brazilian Army General Staff College (ECEME) and CCOPAB.
The subjects of the course range from the fundamental principles and characteristics of peacekeeping operations to interpersonal communication techniques, preparation and execution of negotiation. The instructors are from CCOPAB, the Naval War College (EGN), ECEME and also from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Getúlio Vargas Foundation - FGV).
For the next editions (one per year), civilians, International Relations' students, police personnel, who work in UN peacekeeping operations as members of the United Nations Police (UNPOL), will probably take part in this course.
