Closing Ceremony of the Staff Officers ToT Course 2013
The Brazilian Peacekeeping Operations Joint Center (CCOPAB) and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO/ONU) promoted the Training of Trainers Course for Staff Officers from April 15 to 26, in the facilities of General Ernani Ayrosa Center (CGEA), in Itaipava – Petrópolis-RJ.
The group was composed of 23 officers who came from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, United States, Guatemala, Paraguay and Uruguay. As they all have experience in peacekeeping missions, the objective of the course was to update these personnel concerning the UN training material (CPTM – Core Pre-deployment Training Material, and STM – Standardized Training Material) so they could:
a) Understand the system of the UN training cycle and the concept of training standards for military peacekeepers.
b) Apply the learning principles and techniques for adults when planning and carrying out the training.
c) Identify the connections among the several training modules.
d) Show competence when carrying out trainings based on interactive and innovative methodologies.
e) Analyze and evaluate the training modules.
This was the first course on this topic in the Americas. The option to carry it out in Brazil reflects its excellent performance in UN Peacekeeping Missions, especially in Haiti (Mission des Nations Unies Pour La Stabilisation en Haiti - MINUSTAH) and in Lebanon (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon - UNIFIL).
Finally, the director of the UN Training of Trainers Course for Staff Officers in Brazil, LTC Asif Chaudhry (Pakistani Army), said a few words about the course: "The logistical and administrative arrangements of the course were planned by the members of CCOPAB in a very professional, detailed and careful way. The whole planning was ably implemented, which helped to provide an excellent environment for the learning of the participants and to achieve the aims of the course. Besides, a cultural exhibition showing each region of Brazil, planned by the participants, helped them to understand the richness of the Brazilian culture. Therefore, we express our sincere gratitude towards the Brazilian Government and a special one towards CCOPAB for helping making this course an astonishing success."
Colonel Luiz Fernando Estorilho Baganha, CCOPAB Commander, Coronel Gilberto da Silva Breviliere, CGEA Commander, Captain (Marines) Fernando José Afonso Ferreira de Sousa from EMCFA-MD, LTC Barreto from COTER and LTC Asif Chaudhry took part in the closing ceremony.
